Personal Injury
You may have heard the phrase “personal injury” or “personal injury lawyer”. These phrases simply refer to cases where you (your “person”) has been harmed or injured. If you are injured, you have a personal injury. If you are injured because of someone else’s negligence you have a personal injury case. An attorney who represents injured people is a “personal injury attorney”.
The most probable way we may be injured is in a car, truck or motorcycle accident. The massive amounts of force and weight involved can result in serious injuries, permanent disability or death.
In addition to auto accident cases, the Thompson Law Firm handles cases where the injury is the result of someone’s negligence that does not involve the use of a motor-vehicle.
For example – the Thompson Law Firm has successfully represented:
- The parents of a child who seriously burned her face while in the care of a negligent day care worker;
- A father and husband who seriously injured his ankle when he stepped into a hole on the property of a business that the business knew existed, was hidden, lay between the parking lot and the front door and had not been filled in properly.
A serious personal injury can also occur as a result of using a defective product.
For example – the Thompson Law Firm has successfully represented:
- A roofer who was seriously burned as a result of a defective hot tar spreader
- A family who purchased a space heater with a defective thermostat that burned down part of their home.
A “personal injury case” includes a very broad category of cases. If you or someone in your family has been injured because of someone else’s negligence – you need a lawyer. You should assume that the negligent party has an attorney because, in many cases, the negligent person will have insurance and the insurance company is smart enough to get their attorneys involved as soon as they are notified which is usually immediately following the injury. You have to be smart and do not delay.
